More than ten years after the first Workshop on Data Integration in Life Sciences (DILS 2004) and on Integrative Bioinformatics (IB 2004), data integration remains one of the core challenges in all disciplines of Life Science. Meanwhile, the 6th IB-PAS Workshop (“Integrative Biological Pathway Analysis and Simulation”) was held 2015 in Bielefeld and DILS has become an annual international conference. In the age of “Big Data” the number, size and complexity of related scientific data sources grows. New tools and techniques have emerged but subtle domain specific integration challenges are hard to address with general purpose integration recipes. While the focus of the previous workshops was mostly on bioinformatics we now aim to address data integration challenges and potential solutions in all areas of Life Sciences including bioinformatics, medical informatics, and environmental informatics. The aim of this workshop is to provide a forum for original high-quality interdisciplinary research contributions. The workshop is intended to bring together data integration experts with experts from different Life Science disciplines. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Large-scale data integration in all areas of Life Sciences
  • Big Data integration challenges in Life Sciences
  • Domain specific data integration problems and challenges
  • Geospacial data integration in environmental informatics
  • Reference ontologies and standards for Life Sciences
  • Lessons from data integration projects in Life Sciences
  • Biomedical data integration including data integration for medical research
  • Data integration in healthcare information systemsInterdisciplinary approaches to data integration
  • Data Spaces for Life Sciences
  • Continuous data integration approaches in Life Science
  • Novel tools for data integration
  • Progress in the past 10 years
